Estes

I really took most of the week off to recover. I did throw open stone on Wednesday night, but that was it. We drove on Thursday and Friday, so no training then. I didn't sleep well on Friday night and woke up stiff, sore, and still fatigued from Pleasanton.

The comp went very well. I always throw well at Estes and was very excited to hit two of my big goals for the year. I went over 140' in the light hammer, was near 120 in the heavy, and was able to get the win over the World Champ Dan McKim. Overall, I was very happy with how I responded to the short week, and high fatigue from P-Town. I was able to hit an 18' WOB which really helped in the overall. No time to rest, Loon and Celtic are on the horizon. Hopefully I can carry some of this momentum into the end of the season and I just hope that my peak will be right at Celtic.

Comp Week Day 1 - Estes

I got back home on Monday, about 7 hours later than I was supposed to due to airplane trouble. So I decided not to train on Monday, get some rest and try to hit it hard on Tuesday (Today)

Throwing:
LW
Power Throw x5
1 turns x5
Full throws x5
Trying to stay long and loose and hit a good power position to drive the weight. I felt good, and had some good snap, but obviously was drained as I had trouble getting the distance. Probably long of about 82'

Training:

Squat - Hurdles - Clean - Med Ball Toss
255 + Light bands x3 - 125kg x2 - 18# x2
x5

Band reactive bench press between sets

Cold Tub

Feeling sluggish, still not recovered from this weekend. I'll have to be pretty careful of keeping the load manageable this week to be ready for Estes...The biggest need will be sleep on the short week.

P-Town

Well, I'm back home and feel pretty good about the weekend. I was able to get into Pleasanton without too much stress. It was a pretty early morning, but I was able to get a nap in when I arrived and stayed on top of nutrition and hydration. We had some fun and went to a cryotherapy place the day before the comp started and were able to talk them into staying open for us the next day after day 1 which was really nice after being in the heat all day.

Good:
Hammers were the best they have been all year and I fouled a PR throw of 137'. If I count that, I went 113/137 which is very nice. I'd like to be around 115+ and 140+ by the end of the year. WOB was good, at 17' on a knock off bar, and turned the Caber which is alway a plus. HW was decent out to 43ish, but more there if I can get a hold of one. I felt I managed the heat well. I was able to stay covered most of the day and got nearly 3 gallons of water in with electrolytes and calories all day. Recovery went well after day one, cryotherapy, NormaTec, and cold showers.

Not so good:
I didn't throw LW or Open stone well and I really needed to to shut the door on the day. I would like to be over 50' every day I throw and had some long warm up throws but couldn't do it in the box. LW is just not really consistent. I am able to get over 80', but I need to be out past 85' to be competitive.

I was able to get the overall win, but could have made it more decisive. I'll need to shore those weaknesses up for the end of the season.
